According to Ordinance #172 ALL dogs and cats must be registered and receive a city license. Registration runs from June 1 through May 31 of every year. Registration not received by July 1, 2025 will be subject to a late fee of $3.00 for each month the payment is late and/or court costs and fines. It is extremely important that the city have registration for dogs/cats so animals can be identified if lost or if issues arise with them as well to verify vaccinations for health and public safety reasons.
Cost is $4.00 for any spayed/neutered animal and $6.00 for those not spayed/neutered. A copy of current rabies vaccination must also be on file. Animals Running at Large -
The city is experiencing an increasing occurrence of domestic dogs running at large under no supervision. Several complaints have been received and many man hours extended to try to address the problem.
City Ordinance No. 214 prohibits the owner or harborer of an animal from permitting the animal to run at large. The ordinance provides in part: "It shall be unlawful for the owner or harborer of any animal to permit such animal to run at large within the City at any time".
The ordinance defines "at large" to mean "off the premises of the owner or harborer while not securely led or controlled by a chain, leash or tether".
This is commonly referred to as a 'leash law'. If a dog is off of the owner's property it must be under the control of a person by a leash. Animals found running at large are subject to impoundment, with associated fees, and the owner upon conviction is subject to a fine of not less than $20 nor more than $500 plus court costs.
